2WHAT IS FROSH?
Frosh is your four-day introduction to McGill University and your own respective faculty through engaging events. Frosh will be dedicated to showcasing McGill campus and student life while helping students foster connections with other McGill students in a safe and inclusive environment. We encourage all incoming McGill students to participate for the chance to meet other incoming students from around the world. Frosh is your opportunity to become more comfortable with Montreal, ask older students questions about life at McGill, and learn about your program.
WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE IN FROSH?
Frosh is one of the first opportunities to connect with others who are also experiencing life as new students at McGill. It is also a chance to meet upper-year students that can act as mentors and resources during and after Frosh. Finally, Frosh is an excellent introduction to the McGill community at large, and can help you identify extra-curricular activities that are of interest to you, resources that you can benefit from over the course of your time at McGill, and of course, introduce you to your fellow students’ favourite parts of Montreal!
WHAT ARE THE DATES OF FROSH?
August 22nd-25th 2024!
ARE THERE OTHER TYPES OF FROSHES?
Yes! Along with Faculty Froshes, there are also Non-Faculty Froshes such as Fish Frosh done by the Christian groups at McGill, RAD Frosh is QPIRG-McGill (Quebec Public Interest Research Group at McGill is a student-initiated, student-funded, student-run organization that actively works towards social and environmental justice.), MSA Frosh (Muslim Student Association), and Outdoors Frosh ran by MOC (McGIll Outdoors Club), and more!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN FROSH AS A FROSHIE?
Frosh is intended to get incoming undergraduate McGill students accustomed to life on campus. That being said, you are able to participate in Frosh if you are entering into your first year of undergraduate studies at McGill University, are a new student who entered in the winter term of the previous academic year, are a new McGill transfer student, or are a new exchange student. Unfortunately, returning students, family members, and non-McGill students are not permitted to attend Frosh.
I AM AN UPPER STUDENT AND WHAT TO PARTICIPATE, HOW CAN I?
Upper students can participate through becoming a Frosh Leader or O-Staff for their respective faculty. This process usually begins around mid March so keep a lookout on your faculties Froshes social media pages for next year!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIENTATION AND FROSH?
Orientation is a multi-day period encompassing all the different events for incoming students hosted by a number of groups. Frosh is student-run, coordinated by either a club, group, or Faculty/School student association and consists primarily of social activities.
CAN I PARTICIPATE EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT 18 YET?
As you may or may not know, the legal drinking age in Quebec is 18. Frosh is designed to be inclusive for all, therefore, you do not need to be 18 to participate! Frosh has a variety of events that guarantee a good time for all!
WHAT IF I DON'T DRINK OR CAN'T DRINK ALCOHOL?
If you don’t or can’t drink alcohol you can still have just as much fun at Frosh. People of legal age are able to drink if they would like to, but the purpose of Frosh is to get to know your peers, so don’t ever feel pressured to drink at any point. Each group also has a non-drinking leader each day! You are still able to fully participate and have fun at all of our events without the need for alcohol!
